Carhartt was established in 1889 as a family owned company and it
has remained so for four generations. Hamilton Carhartt, born in
1855, started the company in Macedon Lock, New York.
The Carhartt company originally began with Carhartt working to develop
a line of overalls for the railroad worker that would be sturdier
than any others. He then went from railroad worker to railroad
worker testing his overalls on the job until he found he had a
workable product.
The company has grown ever since except for a downturn during the
depression. After the depression the company grew, expanding
operation into Canada. Carhartt clothing is still produced in the
United States and they even have their own mills to ensure that
the fabric of their clothing meets their standards. Today
Carhartt has become a recognized brand of excellence among work
wear clothing buyers and sellers.
Considering the founding principal of the company to provide
excellence above all standards, it is no surprise that the
company continues to grow even today. And now Carhartt has truly
become the symbol for rugged outdoor clothing and work wear. If
you walk into any working men's store you will find Carhartt
jackets, overalls, coveralls, denim jeans and much more on the
racks for sale.
